History of the wolf

Canids have existed for millions of years, the first canids were the Hesperocyan (about 37 million years ago)evolving into the Eucyon (about 8 million years ago) and the Dire wolf (about 10,000 years ago)The dire wolf lived in the same time period as the wooly mammoth in the North American regions, spreading out into the Europes and Americas and gradually evolving into the wolves and varying breeds of dogs that we know and love today. Every single breed of dog today from the Siberian husky to the Welsh corgi and every dog in between is a direct descendant of the wolf.

The wolf survives today in many different subspecies and variation in most parts of the world. It has been hunted to extinction in many
parts of the world mainly due to the folklore and stigma attatched to it. Today its only predator is sadly us, humans have hunted and killed
many wolves, destroyed their homes and in some parts of the world wolves are the subject of many bounty kills.
